Maybe im stupid but my spreadsheet says otherwise

Moving into a new property at the end of this week (fingers crossed) and have been trying to work out prices for gas and electric.

The property currently has Southern Electric supplying the gas and electric into the property and as far as i know there is an Economy 7 meter in there too.

So i thought i'd do some comparisons and call a few companies.

http://www.moneysupermarket.com says Scottish Power are the cheapest.

http://www.uswitch.com INSIST that British Gas are the cheapest.

http://energy.energychoices.co.uk says Scottish Power are the cheapest.

http://www.energyhelpline.com says British Gas are the cheapest.

uSwitch gave me rates that from what ive seen don't even exist and from my calculations (feel free to check my formulas) Scottish Power are the cheapest.

Switching obviously means i'd be on the standard Southern Electric rate for the next 6 weeks anyway, thus meaning most of/if any saving would probably be swallowed up by that.

Can anyone decipher who is going to be best, as at this rate i will just stay with Southern Electric and be done with it.

What exact data are you putting into the comparison sites?

Remember, the advice here is always to input your annual consumption in kWh to get the best quality output

Edit: just looked at your xls file and would say
(a) it's out of date e.g. SP is now on OES13, not OES11
(b) you don't appear to consider any other charges/discounts other than unit costs.

However, I see your annual usage in kWh is 13000kWh gas & 4200kWh electric. Just need the supply region (or first part of postcode) now

Edit 2: Ok, presume you are in SEEBOARD supply region. Despite the name, perhaps the unit prices are up to date for OES13. However the tier 1 gas price is 5.8P not 5.08p

Edit 3: Well I've just checked EHL & MoneySupermarket.
They both give the same results for dual fuel
i.e. BG websaver 11: £872 EHL (or £872.19 MS)

But you'd probably be better off on single fuels
Again both give the same result for electric
i.e. nPower SOL21: £369 EHL (or £369.06 MS)

gas was a bit different. EHL gives BG websaver 11 gas only @ £465 as best with next best as E.On Age UK Online gas only @ £473
MS for some reason doesn't give BG websaver 11 gas only, but agrees E.On Age UK Online gas only @ £472.98

I suggest you double check the gas only perhaps with a third comparison site, but overall the two sites I checked were reasonably consistent (unlike what you claimed) and certainly better than your spreadsheet attempt.

Edit 4: All these prices are based on single rate tariffs as you gave no indication of E7 usage, nor appear to have considered it in your spreadsheet

i would say unles you have got electric storage heaters scrap E7

i've just convinced my gran after 2 yrs to get rid

she was paying a staggering 31p a unit which then dropped to 11.5, now its 19p and 11p...

I've not checked all the tariffs, but happen to have the SP OES13 to hand for the OP's region

Single rate: 15.021p (first 225kWh /qtr) and 10.436p thereafter
E7 rate: 17.669p (first 225kWh /qtr) and 8.939p thereafter. Night rate just 4.182p

I suggest looking more closely at using E7 with 4200 kWh per year. With SP OES13 it would almost certainly be cheaper on E7 comparing against the equivilent tariff. (but you need to compare to the whole of market, not just the equivilent tariff)
As we don't have the actual consumption split, we can't advise for definite.
