Cheapest most reliable conveyancing or DIY????

We have just received and accepted an offer on our house
and have contacted two solicitors for a price for conveyancing, both of which are alot more than I'd expected and considerably more than when we last did it only 4yrs ago. Is there a reliable alternative - online for example? Or is this a risky business? Any reccommendations?

Or is DIY an option? How hard is it?!?!? Any online guides?

Have a look at this thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3096376

If you have a mortgage to pay off you will need a solicitor to deal with that side of things.

All"on-line" means is that the practice tries to discourage visitors to their office - they are still solicitors or licensed conveyancers and the process is the same. With any estimates you get you have to make sure you read the small print because some that appear cheap have lots of extras.

Doing it yourself makes more work for the buyer's solicitor so he will charge his client more and his client will come back to you wanting you to pay the extra. This is explained in my post in the other thread.

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.
  • Might be worth getting a quote from onlineconveyancing .co.uk - they have been in the online market for over 10 years now and are actually a firm of solicitors not a 3rd party marketing agency

go cheap (online) and your money gets less. if you show such little respect for your own move then how can any conveyancer be expected to show any more either.

get an actual solicitor - smart sellers do - and one start to finish, as otherwise goodness knows what mess they'll make of it.

    good luck

    1st post, advertising? Subtle :p

OP, I am not selling (FTB) but I used reallymoving.com to get quotes from a range of conveyancers and then looked for reviews through google on the ones I liked the look of. I wont say who I am with at the moment as I am partway through the process so I can't really judge. But I'd say searching out quotes then looking up independant reviews is a good place to start.
