Travel insurance & credit cards

Options
Our credit card has some travel insurance included.
We're about to buy some flights for next October which are quite expensive. We're paying for it with the credit card for the extra security of it.

We're hoping to pay this credit card off before summer and cancel it. However, as the flights aren't until October, what would happen if th flights were cancelled or the company goes bust. Would we still be somehow covered with our credit card as that's how we bought it even though we wouldn't have the card anymore?

Is this making sense?

(we would still have more extensive travel insurance elsewhere as it's quite the trip...)

If you have the more comprehensive insurance elsewhere then this would cover you for the risks that you mention with the flights.

You would still get CCA protection even though the card had been cancelled but as to the travel cover from the card you would have to read the terms and conditions. With a previous card I had you would not have the cover as it was tied to you being a card holder as well as using the card to purchase the insurance.
