Garden clearance quote?

My elderly mother is looking to put her house on the market in the next few months. The garden is very large (approx. 0.3 acre which I think is about 750 m2?) and most of it is knee/waist deep in weeds/brambles etc. after years of neglect since my father died. She is resistant to the idea of paying someone to come and clear the garden but I think it is past the point where any of us kids can tackle it.
I have got one very rough quote over the phone but, as the guy said, he obviously needed to see it to give a more accurate figure. The figure he said was £600 for 3 days work. Does this sound reasonable? As we don't want any landscaping or any anything done to it, just chop it all down so it is accessible again and leave the rest to the new owner, I was hoping (perhaps foolishly!) to pay about half this. Does anyone have any experience in this area?
Best wishes

Might be better looking in the local paper for companies and getting a few quotes.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

£600 should be negotiable down to £500 and that's not exactly reasonable but you won't find much lower for 3 days work0

is this for a team of men or just one man also is he taking away the rubish or leaving it as these are important factors to know wether it is expensive. my husband is a gardener and our teenage son helps him sometimes he said it sounds very high if it is just overgrown and no other rubish the pair of them often clear large yards and gardens and would not be charging anywhere near that amount..
try getting several quotes and playing them of against each other there is sometimes room for movement on quotes0 -
750 sq m of overgrown garden is quite a job0

sir brainy i would love my husband to get £500 for 3 days work he could take the rest of the week of then and work on my garden for a change:rotfl:0

Depends how bad it is, I guess.
3 days normal gardening work, grass cutting, hedging, weeding etc I would not pay £500.
But clearing brambles etc in overgrown garden, perhaps0 -
Does she have a local shop where she could ask if there is anyone willing to do this? They may have some local knowledge.
Is it just grass, any open ground, shrubs hedges? Are they many steps,is access easy?
On the "in my home " forum there is a "is this quote fair "thread
Be wary of anyone charging by the hour too,you need a whole job price,0 -
Thanks to everyone who has replied. I'll have to have a trawl through the Yellow Pages/local paper when I go down and see Mum in the next couple of weeks and do a bit more ringing around. I only rang this guy as I found him on the council's Trading Standards website. Good suggestion of asking at a local store too, will give that a go.
Cheers
