Cancelling Switching Process

I have made a HUGE mistake in deciding to go to Santaner. Long story short I will in effect be moving from a Natwest account with full debit card, £100 overdraft and service I have always thought was good, to an account with no overdraft and Visa Debit that is in effect an Electron card and so far poor service.

I wont go into why I decided to switch but the question is can I stop it? Santander told me the switch started on March 3rd (day I applied online) they said switching cannot be cancelled. Is this true? Has anyone ever managed to cancel the switching process? Just interested, otherwise will have to do it all manually next month.

A lesson has been learnt!!

You should be able to stop the actual transfer. They should send you a list of direct debits and you will have the option not to transfer any of them to Santander. When you get the list you need to respond saying that none of the direct debits are to be transferred. After that write to them to close your current account.

In case they mess up make sure you have enough cash in both your current accounts to cover the direct debits.

    Here are the details

As above when they write asking which DDs/SOs to transfer just respond by saying none of them, then make sure your salary etc doesn't get switched either and you should be good to just carry on as you were.

FWIW I moved from Natwest to Santander 1 year ago and have just moved back - they really are as bad as everyone says!

But just to clarify, a VISA debit card is not an Electron card - it is a full debit card.

Hi, thanks for that, Santander themselves told me it was an Electron card in a new name, spoke to someone else there and was told no it is a full Visa Debit. My worry is that to be honest I have had 4 reasons to call them today and they seem totally useless.

I might give them a go for the £100 bonus then go back to Natwest, even if I do have switch back myself!

Personally I'd just move on elsewhere - Natwest are by no means one of the best banks to be with.

Yes, they are hopeless! I switched for a £150 bonus but to be honest for the hassle they caused me in the 12 months I was with them it wasn't worth £150.

They are by no means the worst either. I also bank with First Direct who everyone raves about on here and TBH I find Natwest equally as good (and Natwest are free!).

I have had no letters from Santander yet regarding the switch, however my estate agent has just contacted me to say they have switched my standing order from Natwest as requested and my rent will now be coming out of my Santander account. So they have done this without bothering to send me a list of direct debits, not good, in fact so far an appalling start to my (likely to be brief) time with Santander.
