Halifax credit card missed payment

Last year I missed a payment on my Halifax credit card and made a late payment. I was sent my statement with a £12 charge for a missed payment. Totally my own fault, but I phoned the Halifax anyway to protest.

Luckily I had about £20,000 in a halifax savings account and I told them that they could have their £12 but it would cost them £20,000. I was credited with the £12.

Just goes to show that the credit card charges are not set in stone and it is at the bank's discretion if you are lucky enough to have savings with them.

Anybody else had this sort of experience?

    I think you were lucky.
Card services and retail banking are separate departments - card services don't give a monkey if you have £20k in a savings account or not merely that you stick to their terms and conditions.

Maybe I was lucky but it just goes to show that if you accept bank charges...they're gonna charge you! But if you try, there's always a chance!

I agree - but they will have a record of refunding you once - I don't fancy your chances if you try it again any time soon.
