Installing OpenOffice on a PC with MS Office is not going to 'disturb' the latter, they'll run entirely independently. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I have now loaded Open Office and am very impressed. Will do the job really well. Thanks for all the advice.
Just one query. I downloaded it to a memory stick and then opened it in a folder on the memory stick. It then, however, went through an installation process which did not seem to give me an option and it is now on my C drive
Not now as concerned as it seems to be living happily with all my other programs. Should this have happened though or should I have been able to do everything on the memory stick. See! I said I was computer illiterate!Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0 -

Did you download the portable version? If so, you should really have downloaded it to your hard drive, and then installed it to your memory stick, preferably (for ease of use) having installed the PortableApps platform first.
Alternatively, there's a single install that will do both:
http://portableapps.com/download
(choose Suite Standard), though this does install some other applications too which you most likely won't need or want.Stompa0
