Hi this is just a wee question i didnt know who else to ask.
I took my mobile phone contract out in april last year the best tarriff they had at the time was a £35 a month one i got told by the sales assistant that after 6 months i could drop down a tarrif, so i recently got my phone bill thru and relised that with the vat increase its gone up to £38 which i really cant afford anymore so i gave them a call (on a bleedin 08700 number!!!) and asked to have it reduced
He then told me that they dont reduced phone tariffs anymore and havent done for many years but funnily enough they can up it to £45!! cheek!!!
im slightly miffed now and was really needing that wee bit cash back a month oh well only another year til i can cancel it:eek:
has anyone else been able to reduce tarriffs with them?

The way it used to work was that if you were on a 12month contract you couldn't drop the tariff. If you were on an 18month plan you could drop it by £5 each month after 12months and on a 24month plan you could drop it by £5 a month after 18months. I have heard that this has now changed. I'm also aware that the salesman in the Vodafone shops often tell you that you can drop the tariff after 6months etc to get you into a more expensive contract at the start... If you were to go back into the shop now I'd quite happily bet money that they'd tell you to contact the customer service department and they can deal with it (passing the book)!! As far as I'm aware you can still lower the tariff, but only by £5 a month until the end of the contract period. If you're on an iPhone tariff I don't think they'll lower it at all. Also... don't call the 0870 number! Dial 191 from your handset and it's a free call to customer service. I'd probably try speak to a manager and see if they can get this sorted out for you.
Good luck0 -
Thanks for the info, i will keep trying (but from my mobile using 191!) im so annoyed the guy on the phone just fobbed me off and i think he was thinking "not my problem"!
i will try again and ask for a manager even if i could drop it £5 it would help, once my contracts over im going payg i think!
thanks againFinally had the "lightbulb moment" now facing up to debtsIf you aint got nothing nice to say then dont say anything at all0 -
sorry to butt in,does that mean you ring them every month after the qualifying period and they will drop it by £5.
eg. april-£33
may-£28
june-£25 etc.....0 -

Hi DragonflyCandy,
I’m sorry to see there has been so much confusion and conflicting information provided regarding this and I’ll be happy to explain.
With our newer price plans, these can’t be downgraded to anything lower than the original agreed monthly amount. There are still some older plans however that don’t fall under this so we’d need to take a look at your account to be 100%.
If you’d like to email us via Web Relations Team we’ll be happy to look into this for you.
