Help !

I'm about to make a rather large purchase, and although I've got the money to pay for it, I still want to pay for it by credit card so as to get the protection that comes with that method of payment. However, I have a number of credit cards whose total limit is enough to pay for the item, but no one single card has a sufficient limit. So my first question is if the retailer were to allow to say pay a deposit on credit card A and the balance on credit card B, would either card then be liable if anything went wrong?

When I spoke to my bank, they said I could apply for an increase on my card with them, but success is not guaranteed, especially as having taken early retirement I am asset rich but income poor. When she suggested paying for it on my debit visa card I explained that for the CCA protection I wanted to pay for it by credit card. She then disappeared for a while to speak to a colleague. When she returned she said her information was that because my debit card is a Visa card I had the same level of protection. I don't think this is correct.

Can anybody help ?

It is my understanding that even if yu pay a small amount on the cc and the rest by debit card the protection of the cc covers it all.

The debit card (Visa) still carries the protection but I think the above would be the way to go for you.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
