Hi I'm looking at moving my ISP and I would benefit from some advice regarding email addresses. I have been told for a small fee I can "ghost" my old email address (whatever that means) and therefore maintain a reasonably normal and trouble free life. It all sounds a bit to good to be true and I wonder if it is. I'm sure loads of you out there have changed ISP and would really like to here your views. I've only got a few days left before the change is complete so I can still bail out of this agreement. What do you think????

best thing is to get a new email address from either hotmail or gmail (both very good email providers).
yes you can set it up so sent email looks like it is 'sent' from you old email, but if someone replied to it, you would never get the email as it would go to the shut down address at your old ISP.
for all intents assume that you have lost your old ISP email address when you move ISPs, get a new ISP independant email from one of the above and change everything to the new email (all accounts, MSE ect.) also if you decide to tell all your contacts remember to use Bcc to tell them.0 -
Id cancel until youve (as above) set up a gmail (I would advise hotmail, as thats favourite to be attacked) and moved all website registrations over to it and you have a full list of all contacts
Also, make sure you use a very secure password:idea:0 -
I've changed ISPs a couple of times over the years and continued to use the email accounts from the old providers quite happily with no problems. Quite straightforward to set up in Outlook (or similar).
Then gradually over time I transfer website registrations etc. over to my new ISP email address - It is also a good opportunity to filter out unwanted contacts by not giving them your new email address ...:)0 -

Each to their own, but is that not a bit log winded? (depending on how often you change)
If you set a gmail up youd only ever have to set everything up once. Any contacts you dont want you delete and set up as spam:idea:0 -
Much easier in this day and age to have a web based email, there are so many providers you can choose however many you want.0
