how long have you been there

In all fairness I would phone the police
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • Ive been there since March.

I wa going to the first time, i had left part cash and part cheque on the table to pay him and when i got home it was gone! I evetually rang him to give off and his wife said he had an "arrangement" with other tenants where he went in and took the rent. I told her in no uncertain terms that he did NOT have permission to enter mine. And hey-ho he's been in twice since!

If he does it again im calling the police... Definately!

I think its illegal to charge rent without supplying you with an address!

Tell him you are going to post the cheques to him in future and ask for an address.

  • Turning up inside your home uninvited is totally inappropriate and is trespass. He sounds like a stalker. You may like to let him know that from now on you need an address/ bank a/c for any payments to be made.
I'd consider changing the locks - this is not normally accepted in ASTs but nor is his behaviour. His behaviour is totally inappropriate, I'd get a solicitor involved personally.
  • It also sounds like he is avoiding paying tax on rental income.

You need a trip to the CAB, I'd be very surprised if the rental agreement is legally binding without his address on it.

You need to put in writing your objections and concerns to date.

Do not change the locks, this will casue problems, after all, He does own the property.

The Fiance is a good idea, make it clear it is unacceptable that He lets himself in without anyone being present or the authority to do so. But be nice and polite throughout.

I'm pretty sure it's not. I think no rent is lawfully due unless you have notification of an address in the UK. (some nice phrase like that anyway).

I would change the locks. So long as you don't cause any damage, I think it's perfectly OK to do so.
and maybe as a short term measure buy a mousetrap :D

I think the lock thing is a grey area, but I'm not sure. I'd check on that from a legal standpoint.
