    Hi Ostrich,
Well done for facing up to it - is really scary but at least you're moving in the right direction. If you are unsure about what some of the debts are or if you should be paying then send them a letter asking them to prove your liability for it - the onus is on them to show that you do actually owe the money. Also if you are getting a lump sum through then is definately worth looking into offering reduced full and final settlements on some of the debts - I don't think council tax or hmrc accept these but any other is worth asking on, and if they have been passed to debt collection companies and haven't had payments for a while then they will often be more open to a reduced figure - there is a good template letter for this on National Debtline website.

    Hello
I took another step and got my Experian report, quite surprised at how little is on there!

The only bad things showing are the credit card defaults I knew about already plus

1)a overdraft with defaults from Satander for £239 (I knew I had one but wasn't sure how much)
2)a CCJ from 11/12/2006 from Northampton County court for £252. But there are no other details there about who it is I actually owe this money to...or what it was for. How do I find out? How do I go about paying it if there's no information there?

What worries me most now is the outstanding council tax and rent, why aren't they showing up at all (the rent was council). I know the bailiffs were involved re the council tax. How do I find out about them? Or if they aren't showing up, should I just assume they've been written off and forget them? If I've been let off it I don't want to trigger them chasing me again by contacting them... But I know they've written to me in the last couple of years regarding these...haven't found the letters yet. What should I do?

Hi, well done on tackling all of this you are doing really well. I suggest the best thing would be to continue going through all of your unopened mail and as it has already been suggested on here get them into date order and post as you find them and then you can see what you have and prioritise what needs to be sorted out first. There may be some correspondence regarding the council tax and rent which you come across. Keep it up :-) x
  • Hi

    Keep going your doing great.

The council tax and rent wont show on a credit report, utility bills dont always show either.

Get everything opened and then wait before contacting the council, they do tend to catch up eventually with you.
  • Hey Ostrich - well done to you for cracking on with opening those letters! Bet you by Sunday you'll have all the information you need, warts and all, and you can have a think about your plan of action going forward. You must be feeling a bit better already! I think you've been ever so brave so pat on the back to you x :T
