Ostrich, I know it's really frightening to open those letters but I think you know deep down that this is where your start to recovery will begin. You're probably terrifying yourself witless about not knowing. Once you know what you're dealing with, you know. You may have a cry over the first few but after that opening them will be like shelling peas. Believe me when I say that you will feel empowered, you're taking control of it instead of it taking control of you. Get those figures at the bottom of your signature before this weekend! Join us! Just take a look at the mess I'm in! But at least I know which direction I'm going in now. I'm sending some telepathic strength and support to you! xxxDebt Free Date Target 31/12/2014

At the top of your first post, in the green bar, is a drop down menu saying thread tools, you can subscribe to the thread in that.
Good luck with your journey, the start is opening those letters and realising it just isn't as bad as you think. And once you face up to it then you're sorting it xIf you knew it then you know it!

Ostrich,
just want to say well done on facing your debt and posting on here. I'm afraid I dont have much advice as I am a newbie myself but this is the first step. There is a wealth on information here and as soon as you can get those envelopes opened and post further the advice will be here for you. Best of luck and big hugs xx0 -
I've made a start. I've opened the recent post I had in the kitchen and found latest details of three debts.
One really is stupidity, HMRC self employed NI contributions - I stopped being self employed a couple of years ago. I told the main tax office but I didn't realise I had to inform the NI office separately! So I'm writing to them to now inform them so at least it won't get worse, and I'll also ask if it's possible to remove the charges back to either the date I informed the main tax office, or at least to April 2010 as the HMRC finally wrote to me this year and said I wouldn't need to submit a tax return from then onwards, year end April 10 was the last one required. So that's got to be proof that I was not self employed after that. Worth asking, anyway.
The AA one I'm not sure is still owing or not, it was lapse in insurance payments, but I'm now insured again with them and they didn't mention it, but this letter i from a debt collectors. Should I talk to the AA or the debt collectors to find out if it's still due?
Thanks so much for all the encouragement.[STRIKE][/STRIKE]I am a long term poster using an alter ego for debts and anything where I might mention relationship problems or ex. Great start !! One down, some of the amounts you have are in small chunks which is quite nice, it means you can probably clear some of these quite quickly. Keep going and post up a list, dont forget to find out the APR's and then you know which have to go first.
I have subscribed to this thread and very pleased for you that youve made a start !!0 -
WELL DONE OSTRICH - I am so proud of you... you have made that start and the fact that you can comment on the ones you have opened must mean you are feeling better.:T:T:T:T:j I belong to Mike's Mob :j0
