Advice on previous rejection please!

Hi there. My husband wants to take out a life insurance plan, however he applied for one a few years ago and was rejected because he admitted to have once taken drugs at university (10 years ago).

So we are now applying through another provider but one of the questions is "have you ever been rejected life insurance on anything other than standard terms". Sorry to ask the stupid question - but does that qualify as a rejection on standard terms?

If we say yes to this then obviously we face another rejection, but if we say no, could the new insurer find out that we have had a rejection in the past?

Help please!

I'm sorry I cant answer your question with any degree of certainty since I dont work in the industry...

what I can say with some certainty is that there are lots of stories of people who have paid insurance for years only to be denied a payout when they claim due to 'non disclosure' of 'material facts'.

There doesnt seem much point in paying for something that may never pay out, there is bound to be a way to get insurance - I'm sure someone here will point you in the right direction, I guess the only question will be what is the cost?

IIRC life offices used to share data on such issues via the Life Association Register. This would show one office if another had declined, deferred or loaded an application.

I would suggest you never give an insurer an opportunity to get out of paying a claim. You must declare the use of non-prescribed drugs and you must also declare the decline of the recent application.

Are you applying through an IFA? He/She may be able to help by establishing who is most likely to insure your husband before an application is submitted.
