Thanks for the input. We are talking purely the building, not the contents. It is worth noting the professional valuation included knocking down, clearing the site and rebuilding of the house and large double garage, the latter which is fine. The house is listed and unusual which is why we got a surveyors valuation which is probably greater then the accepted calculation.

Jonno - you did index-link the cover?

Not that it would make much difference in 18 months either way.

I'm suprised at some of those ones- particulary 4/18. Thats basic case law- Brown vs Royal - how did no one at the insurers pick up on that? They need to do some exams!
They might have taken "Life" route! :D

Not sure it was will check the renewal, having said that it has only been renewed the once since the valuation.

With this type of claim its kind of moot what the SI is anyway. Under the Metropolis Fire Act 1774 (still not rescinded) any one with an interest in the property can insist on it being reinstated by insurers in the event of a fire, rather than cash settled. The insures would then be compelled, under Brown vs Royal to reinstate fully regardless of the SI. Given that a surveyor prepared the SI, they wont even be able to argue deliberate non disclosure.

Yes own home, no mortgage. Would rather not state online who the insurer is for fear of getting backs up. As additional information the insurers when granting cover have listed that they will do a survey within 60 days to give requirements and recommendations, will need to check my diary but if they came surely if they had considered the building underinsured they would have raised this? For the record the insured amount is over 350K
  • i hope that everything is fine now..
i think, this is very serious matter, you consult with loss adjusters. they will help you definitely....
