Gift idea for chemo patient?

Options
I want to find a little gift for a friend of mine who is going through chemo. Something that will be useful and lift her spirits.

She was a HUGE pillar of support to me when I was doing my PhD and now that I have moved I want her to know I am thinking of her and wishing her well.

I was considering audiobooks so she has something to do and keep her mind occupied while she was getting treatment. Can anyone think of something better? Or someone who has been through it think of something they would have appreciated?

Thanks in advance.

she might not necessarily lose her hair with chemo so be careful before sending those!! i lost hardly any.

Things i would of loved were audion books, or reading books. Moisturiser/hand cream, but something for sensitive skin as you can get very dry/sore skin.

Also some nice pampering things, that you would never buy yourself, or how about treating her to a manicure or pedicure at a local salon?

Sorry if this all gets a bit soppy :o

When I was first diagnosed, one of my friends organised a secret whip round as my friends are scattered round the country. I got a bunch of flowers which was a lovely surprise, and a Lush gift box - the friend who did the shopping got products called Happy and Hugs :D

Then to my surprise I got an Amazon voucher and a gift voucher for a day at a spa! I was really touched that they went to all that trouble for me :A All those treats can be sent/ordered by post if your friend lives a long way away. Mr Filigree bought me an MP3 player and loaded it with loads of tracks. Just as well as I wouldn't know where to start!

Now that I've been on chemo I've found that I get through loads of DVDs - I'm at home a lot and I find it difficult to concentrate on books. If your friend is a fan of a particular TV show she might appreciate a box set to keep her amused. For those long days in hospital waiting rooms and on the chemo ward, I like doing puzzle books - again, I find it hard to read a book for hours on end and a few Sudoku break the monotony. Maybe your friend would like something crafty to pass the time, like a cross-stitch kit or some knitting wool?

If your friend does need headscarves, I recommend www.modestworld.com. Their prices are really reasonable with loads of styles for under $10 (US) and international delivery is just $6. I don't work for them, I just like their scarves :T

Sorry to hear about your friend x

Why not get her a pamper voucher - to get her nails done, etc. Or tickets to see a show at her local Theatre.

    Or one of these

    A travel cushtie

It comes in a great little bag that you could maybe pop a few bits in like some lip balm, puzzle book, slipper socks, hand and nail kit.

    Hope that helps.

I would avoid flowers or anything with a strong smell as this sometimes can cause patients to feel more nauseated (sp?).
