TOYOTA COROLLA 1998 Not Starting

Wonder if there is anyone out there who can help. I have a Toyota Corolla 1998 hatchback. Before Christmas started having problems. Bought new battery, then battery was losing power and not starting so replaced the alternator. Now the car will start if jumped and will run but if left overnight (like last night) will not start in morning. It makes a clicking noise when ignition key is turned. Any ideas. This is doing my head in.:(

It sounds like you have something that is drawing current, check that the light in the boot is going off when you close it.

An Auto Electrician is probably your best bet to get it sorted.

Inactive has hit the nail on the head. If it's a new battery and alternator, then something is drawing current and draining the battery. An auto electrician will be able to sort this, as Inactive said, but before you shell out, make sure that it's not something simple like a light in the boot, glovebox, ashtray, whatever, that's being left on.

The method I use is simple but effective - get a small child, then at night time, lift said small child into boot, close the boot, ask small child to report any glimmer of light he can see. Remove small child from boot, pay with sweeties, then await the knock on the door from Social Services !!

( For the record, the small child in question belongs to me and was a willing participant ! )

I doubt this is the reason in this case but when did you last change your HT leads op?
  • my suspisions is that the battery/fusebox GROUND wire has lost its contact drawing a + current 24/7.

there is an outside chance that the new battery having been discharged a few times is not holding a charge.
ht leads.... not really going to effect your battery
you need either an auto electrician or a good garage to check the current drain...usual culprits apart from interior lights are heated rear windows, aftermarket alarms and radios
