Text him back to say you're alerting the police, your mobile service provider, and (if you know it) his mobile service provider, because;
"Malicious Communications Act 1998
A particularly unpleasant form of harassment is that involving malicious communications either through the post, the telephone, Fax, by cyberstalking through the internet or, an increasing problem, by the use of Text or SMS messages sent to mobile phones.
Under this legislation it is an offence to send an indecent, offensive or threatening letter, electronic communication or other article to another person and under section 43 Telecommunications Act 1984 it is a similar offence to send a telephone message which is indecent offensive or threatening. Both offences are punishable with up to six months imprisonment and/or a fine. Because the Malicious Communications Offence is wider ranging than the Telecommunications offence it is more likely to be charged by the Police than is the Telecommunications Act offence.

Won't that just stir things up even more? He said i've f****d with the wrong person and he can't wait to see me around town, "should be fun" he put. Now I'm scared of going out on a weekend

See my edit - the law is on your side.
If you meekly take abuse from him, won't that just give him a green flag to do the same to someone else? Would 6 months at her majesty's pleasure get the message through?
Stay in 24 hours a day, go out around town and face him down, take self-defence classes, or involve the authorities; these would seem to be your main choices.0 -
DEFINITELY REPORT TO POLICE.
If he does anything to you you have proof from the texts - I bet he'll do nothing...it's all bluster.0 -
Thanks for your help guys, just rang the council. They contacted the landlord who confirmed that I was not a joint tenant and I have been removed from the summons. Justice is served

Glad you got it sorted - I received a summons just before Christmas for Council Tax owed whilst I was a student at Uni in 2005. It was a huge shock and quite upsetting!
I got it sorted out OK but only once I had contacted Citizens Advice....the BCC told me that unless I could prove that the people I shared the house with were also students, I still had to pay it all and it was my job to track them down, which was not the case!!0 -
Definitely report this guy to the police.
If he physically assaults you then that is most probably a prisonable offence. If you should 'bump into' each other, then try and make sure that there are witnesses around.
If he sticks one on you first, then he is almost certainly guilty of assault. But you do need a witness to back this fact up with evidence. And he could easily get a prison sentence for it.
Otherwise it's just your word against his and he would then simply be able to say you looked as though you were going to hit him and he just quickly 'self-defended'.0
