Living will

I have quite a lot of good jewelley that I wish to leave to my granddaughter, I have left a 'note' as such

Do I have to make a will or do all my things automatically go to my son to sort out?

I can trust my son to do the right thing but dont have the same confidence in all my sisters

It's always best to make a will. If you don't your estate will be distributed according to intestacy rules, so no, it may not all go to your son. It depends if you have a spouse or civil partner at the time. If you don't, then it will all go to your children in equal shares.

That's just on current rules though, they change, so why not spend a £100 or so on a simple will to make sure your wishes are followed.

Supposing your son dies first, or with you (not trying to be morbid) then everything will go to your siblings and nothing to your granddaughter.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.

As I understand the rules, grandchildren would take precedence over siblings -

But it's still best to do a will.

Or you could give it to her now if you don't use it that way you will know your wishes have been fulfilled
