If you want to follow through on this, a better idea might be to invest in an investment trust that has Google as a major holding. This will give you some upside if Google does well, while diversifying into other investments as well. And you can usually invest in an IT quite cheaply through investment plans with the provider, a simpler solution than investing directly in Google shares.

I don't actually know an IT that has a major holding in Google - some have 1% or so. But as an example, Scottish Mortgage has significant stakes (7% each) in Amazon and Baidu (Chinese search engine), with smaller stakes in Apple and Google. So it might be a good choice if you're thinking technology is the way forward.

There's something completely wrong about all this, as AlanQ says.

You can't invest in someone else's name. If he's given you £5k, then do as you please with it. If he wants to invest, tell him to get on and do it, and discuss the options with him if that's what he wants.
  • Don't even consider buying shares at the moment, yes they may be cheaper but who knows when the fall will ceases.

The markets would swallow you up and spit you out with half your cash remaining!

    Trust me

Apparently the financial crash was God's plan. He intended it lead to a world war that would kill 2 billion - but don't worry it would only be the unemployed and prostitutes who would die and it would mean more food and less pollution for the murderous survivors. But Obama messed up God's plan with his financial stimulus. Naughty Obama.
Boo. They deleted it. That was my favourite post ever.

P.S. No need to fret, being a true looney keen to spread his message he has posted it on other forums too. Here's one, he even makes a follow up post saying God will send a big earthquake. This God bloke doesn't sound very nice:

You Named him. You drew his attention again.

Do you think he's a former member of Blue Oyster Cult?

It is always different this time. The only thing that is the same is the outcome.
