Fault for a crash initiated by another driver

I was recently involved in a car crash (writing off my car in the process.) A vehicle drove into the side of my car causing it to veer into oncoming traffic, causing a subsequent collision with another vehicle.

The original driver drove off and my insurer is holding me responsible because I haven't got the original drivers details (for obvious reasons.) I have pictures showing where the original driver hit the side of my car but nobody (insurer, highway agency, police) seem to care.

The question is, am I liable? Whether for the original accident and/or the subsequent collision.

With no other party to get recompense from, then irrespective of whether or not you are liable your insurer will treat your claim as an at fault one.

Hi,
If you have the other cars details then you can make him/her pay for the damages, or if they were not insured the MIB, as you have not got the reg then you are left with the bill and your insurance will have to pay it all.
Facts are that you did hit the other cars, and your insurance would have paid this. If you had the details of the first car then that car would pay for all the bills you have aswell.

If you are injured your own insurance may beable to treat you, hopefully others can correct me if Im wrong.
