in Credit cards
Hello everyone!
Please could you help/advise me. I hope i do not bore u with a long story, if u want to get my situation to the point please see "to the point below". OK, I have always stayed away from credit cards as i do not really want to be paying interest for things that i purchase with it. So i have always tried o stay within my budgets and used my debit accounts/cards for purchases.
i am quite on top of savings accounts and debit accounts. But when it comes to credit cards i find it very difficult to distinguish the best one for myself.
I am trying to book a holiday and the website does not except my debit cards, i could transfer the money to my other debit account (which the site does except) but this would take a few days to juggle my money around (also there are charges for using debit cards).
To the point: I would like to get a credit card so i can book my holiday and then repay the credit card and that is it, do not want to use the card again. This would be quicker, i would not be faced with extra charges for using a debit card, and i will get it booked before the price rises.
Is this possible, i am assuming i can go into the bank and get one on the day (i have good credit rating ect). Or is there certain processes i have to go through?
I hope someone can help, looking forward to any help.

I think it will be several days quicker for you to transfer money into the debit card they will accept, and also, I believe that debit cards are normally free to use, credit cards usually attract a 2.5 - 3% surchargeOpinions are like bottoms - We all have one, just some stink more than others

The advantage here would be if your company went bust and you did not receive holiday, paying a proportion on a credit card (so long as the overall transaction was £100+) would give you cover under section 75 nd you'd get your money back.0

Evening, enjoy your holiday when it happens!
First point of call as you've said is speak with your bank where your salary is paid to, ask the question am I pre-approved for a CCard?
If yes > Maybe apply depending on the offer on the card for example 0% for a period of time if looking to spead payments, card will be with you within max 14working days, hopefully not to long and the prices for holiday stay the same.
If no> Check your credit reports for £2.00 with Experian, Equifax and CallCredit, or simply sign up for a free trial and cancel so no fee, look at other credit card offers but dont get trapped into the keeping applying and getting declined cycle.
If you are looking to repay that same month, and as you say only use the card once, look at a credit building card maybe worth applying for as sometimes easier to get, yes will have high apr but if your paying of the card at the end of the month to attract £0 interest who cares. Barclaycard Initial, Capital One Classic/Progress, Vanquis / Aqua cards.
All depends on your personal credit circumstances...Can I find out my credit score? You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)0 -
If you are wanting not to pay any charge on your credit card, you can pay just a £10 on the credit card and the rest on a debit card
so you would be covered by the secion 75 of the cc.
Failing that, the American express is giving 5% on purchases for the first three months, so that would cover your booking charges.
When you get your 5% on the anniversary of the card start dont forget to cancel the card as if you dont use it in the next 12 months
there is a £20 dormancy fee.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks for reply. I get charged administration fees of 14pounds for by the website i book it through because i am using a debit card. If i was to use a credit card i would not, for some reason it does not charge people using credit cards. Ryanair have added an administration fee now when you book flights if you do not use ether their ryanair payment card and i think credit card too.
I still think would be better with a credit card, as i have to wait for money to be transferred from my savings accounts.0 -

Another thing to consider is, probably cant split payments online to pay part with DCard & part CCard expect will have to be one card. Can I find out my credit score? You do not have a single credit score or rating. I think the only way to avoid Ryan Air fees is buy purchasing a PRE PAID credit card, all normal credit cards will still attract the feeOpinions are like bottoms - We all have one, just some stink more than others

Without appearing nosy but what bank or building society is your salary/income paid into? Can I find out my credit score? You do not have a single credit score or rating.
