Not sure it would ork on a stain this large but for smaller marks an old sewing hint may help, your own spit gets your own blood out - something to do with th enzymes or something but does work, I've even used this when I've pricked my finger sewing a wedding dress and got the blood out of silk.

    really???
its quite a big stain... not sure i have enough spit,
could have a spitting party or set up an activity for the kids??
    :rotfl:lol!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
cold water every time - it washes most of the blood out, if you use hot water it "cooks" the protein in the blood and makes the stain much harder to get out.

( Well that' what I've always read anyway)

The old style board will have an answer though, and might also have a remedy for those bledding noses too, they are fantastic on the OS board.:D

Definitely cold water, it should come out quite easily if soaked in cold water and some salt or bio washing powder.

For the muddy clothes, do you do a prewash?

I was once told by a paramedic to soak blood stains in milk before rinsing in cold water! Might be too late to try that now though, I think it only works with "fresh" IYSWIM :)

If you use the spit method the spit has to belong to the same person as the blood...i.e. your daughter. Too late for that now you've washed it but worth remembering for the future...

  • Your poor daughter!
Milk is amazing for blood stains- the fats dissolve the protein chains (or something, sounded knowledgeable though, didn't I?!) I had a dried in blood incident and soaked it in milk- the whole lot came out. Not sure it would work after washing though.

Women who use washable sanitary towels soak them in diluted vinegar solution to help reduce staining.
    HTH!

Most washing machines have a prewash option you can use for dirty clothes and there is a separate part of the drawer that you put powder in if you're using it, well there is in mine anyway.

    hi,
i'm not a regular on this bit of the forum so hello!
you guys have been recommended by the marriage/home section.

so i'm rubbish at laundry, my daughter had a nose bleed at school, when she got home there was a significant amount of dried blood on her short sleeve. So i did the stupidest thing and soaked it in biling water-now been told totally the wronf thing to do, it sets the stain

we had another nose bleed-my son on his pillow case last night and
some guys have recommended cold water and salt so i have put bioth items in a bucket of the aforesaid........

nothing happening with the shirt, pillow case looking a bit better but still not completely stain free.......

any clever experienced people out there with some help on salvaging the situation at all.

    ANY advice greatly appreciated:)

PS i am also rubbish at getting dried mud off my sons tracksuit bottoms, he LOVES o dive in football, even if i wash several times, does the hot /cold rule apply here aswell, am i doing the wrong thing soaking them in hot water???

I have tried the vanish/oxygel type stuff already doesn't seem to work for DRIED on stains
