It's so funny, I haven't had any credit card offers through the post for years. But only 6 weeks after opening my Co-op Cashminder account ready to go BR, I got a Vanquis card offer in the post, pml. I binned it of course.
When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN :D

I applied for a vanquis card to rebuild my credit rating and i had the same....not instant decision....phone call trying to sell me stuff and eventually I was accepted....with an APR of....(are you ready) 59.9%!!!!! I almost had a hernia when I heard that. of course I have no intention of EVER oweing anything on it but my god there should be laws against that. She did say over time if I paid and didnt default the APR would come down.
Ver irresponsible though as some desperate people would actually end up using that and paying the whopping interest.

    59.9% That's outrageous!
  • I use mine for fuel purchase only, i spend a lot on fuel, but i pay it all off monthly and have cancelled any "protection" so they make very little out of me, they take the full amount by DDM so no need for any intervention by me (i always used to forget and get hit with fees in my previous life)

Lol! I don't think it is given that the people who have a vanquis card have had difficulty paying their debts in the past. Yes, yes, I know we've all learned our lessons, but given that no-one else will touch me with a barge pole, 59.9% APR suddenly seems like a bargain. In the year that I've had a card, never paid interest, and tbh I'm thankful to have a credit card at all...I feel the same way about vanquis that I do about Co-op - grateful.

I've had my card 18 months, never late, never missed a payment (Never paid less that the full amount) This months statement, my APR is now 59.9% from 34.9...... No letter or anything, anyway, phoned them, and they can't understand why!!!!

Anyway, waiting to hear from them, registered it as a formal complaint and I'll just close the account if thats how they treat customers

READ YOUR STATEMENTS just incase they slip you a nice loyalty bonus too lol

  • Im with Vanquis Bank and I really wish I wasnt. They messed up the direct debit and didnt send out a confimation letter of the direct debit so i didnt know, and because there was then a missed payment they put on a charge of £12.

They also tried to tell me i had no money in my account which is why the direct debit was returned, i know that it is lies because i check my bank account on a daily basis and know there was no attempt to take money from the account. I have phoned them and was told the charge would be taken off only it wasnt which i found out when i checked my account today.

So i phoned them up again and was spoken to really badly and told that I had to phone their account services as they (customer services) dont have that type of access to customer accounts, but i would have to phone them monday as they werent open when i called at 7 15pm. I also recieved the direct debit confirmation today and the details are wrong, so im going to have to phone them again.

I cant wait to get this card paid off and terminated. These people are con artists. Stay away is my opinion. The high apr's are extremely extortionate.

For the OP - Yes that is very normal for this credit card, they wont tell you your limit over the phone but i believe the minimum is £250 at least that is what I have read from searching the net. If you set up a direct debit when you are confirmed to being accepted make sure they have your details correctly.

Me too. I did a quick online application for vanquis and have been inundated with texts for loans. I don't want a loan, just want to start getting the nice 0's on my credit file. Never mind - it has scared me off credit for a while longer.
