Long course Loan

sorry for another question.....

Just been on Student finance and and one of the things DD is entitled to is a 'long course loan' The only info I can find on these loans, is you're entitled to them if your course is longer than normal. But DD courses are normal length!! Depending on where she goes either 3 yrs or 4 yr, and Student finance say she's entitled to it whilst on the three yr course??? am confused please help?

These are for when the student year is longer than usual. Generally its for courses like nursing etc when a student has a longer than usual academic year.

Indeed. If the course is over 30 weeks and 3 days, a student qualified for extra maintenance loan in that academic year.

Sorry to bring up old thread but I have just come across this to.

In my sons case it is £87 but is only showing for the three year course and not the four year course. Does anyone know why this would be?

    Thanks

Would be down to the course dates provided by the university to the SLC. If there is an error, the university need to contact the SLC to amend the dates.

Is one of those four years a year in industry (also know as a placement industry)? You will not receive a long course loan for this year if the placement comprises of one block (no teaching just work placement). I did a 4 year degree and a 40 week placement year - my placement year did not qualify for a long term loan.
