My meter is situated in my understairs cupboard, about six inches from the floor, and a very difficult place to read.Whats the chances of getting it moved? I am finding it even more difficult right now as I am recovering from an accident, its just in such a silly place.I have to lie on the floor to read it.

100% if you are prepared to pay.

Very much less if you are not.

Thats why meters often appear to allocated in stupid places as people dont want to pay to have them moved

It may be well over £500+ to have it moved

How about a work around - maybe take a picture of it with a digital camera, then read the numbers off the photo, something like that?

Ive got the total opposite problem in my house with the meters about an inch from the ceiling (and I have stupidly high ceilings) needless to say I can't see the readings without climbing a ladder - and as I don't own one makes it somewhat difficult, although it is somewhat amusing when meter readers come round and have to ask if I have something for them to climb

  • I had exactly the same problem(low meter under stairs in cupboard).

Luckily the meter was due to be upgraded last year and so i asked the very nice man if he would mind making it higher so as to be able to read it.
He was happy to oblige(but said he shouldnt really) as it was a straightforwrd job using some extra pipe.He agreed that it was in a silly position.

Have a look at your meter and if its very old it may need upgrading soon.
