Royal Mail - Lost Parcel

Hi all, I sold an item on eBay and sent it by Royal Mail Recorded Delivery. The buyer contacted me to say they had not received their item so I tracked the parcel online with the tracking number but there was no proof of it being delivered. After 15 working days had passed I sent a claim into Royal Mail. I have just received a reply today with a cheque enclosed for the price the item sold for on eBay.

The original price of the item was £30.00 and it sold for £10.00
I thought Royal Mail refund the original price of the item not the price it sells for on eBay? Can anyone give me anymore details on this.

Thank you

Nope. £10 are your losses, and that's what they will repay. I'd have thought you would get your postage back as well though.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

If you can show a receipt for it costing £30 you could have claimed for this. As it stands, all you showed was that it sold for £10.

I thought they gave you market value for lost items. If you'd just sold it in open market for £10 then they are obviously going to say £10 is market value. I agree about the postage though, you should get that back too.

You get the lower of the two values, either original cost or sale cost.

If when you check online it shows as delivered then you are fine. There is no requirement for a signature to be legible.

In fact you only need a signature visible online if item was an ebay one and over £150 in value

Why do RM only refund for the cost of the item not the cost is sold for? You have still lost money by them losing the item as you have now lost the sale.

They cover your losses, not your profits.

A loss of profit is still a loss though. What happens if you don't have proof of the original cost of the item?
