double glazing guarantee

Hi,have moved home a few months ago and the upvc back door has developed a problem (locking mechanism). This was fitted 2 years ago as we have the fensa certificate with the date and the installer which gives a 10 year guarantee, this was sent to us by our solicitor. But having contacted the installer he says this is not valid as we were not the owner when this was done and there would be a charge for him to repair the door. If this is the case and you have windows and doors fitted and move house then the guarantee is worthless.Do i have any rights for the installer to repair this under guarantee, thanks steve1916.

What does the guarantee say about transfer of ownership ?

Hi all i have is the fensa certificate with who and when it was installed with the previous owners name on the back and says nothing about transfer of ownership. Can i apply for a guarantee through fensa in my name as there is a tear off section on the certificate, thanks steve1916

Ahh yes just re read your original post.

Fensa is not a guarantee scheme all it does is make it easier for a installer to self certify instead of having to apply for building regulations approval. I believe they insist that the installer offers a insurance backed guarantee for the houseowner but it is up to the installer to decide on the terms as whether or not they are transferable on change of ownership.

If you haven't got the actual guarantee from the installer which states that it covers change of ownership of the building, then I fear you are pretty well screwed to use a legal term !
