Boiler broken for 6 months?? Landlord Help!

I live in a private rented house, my boiler broke in September. The problem with it is when the central heatings on after a while (different everytime) it will error and switch off, i don't realise until the house goes cold! Then have to reset the boiler and start again for it to happen again an hour or more later. This happens in the night as well, you can imagine how much of a pain this has been with a baby in the house and how cold a winter we have just had! Not to mention my extortionate gas bill which i'm sure is because of this!!

The letting agent sent someone in September and they said it was fixed, it wasn't. They sent someone else who said he couldn't fix it nd i recieved a letter saying the landlord was taking it into his own hands and it was not the letting agents problem anymore. So the landlord sent his own gas man eventually (in november), who said he would order a new part and get back to me. I haven't heard anything from the landlord since then, i've spoken to the letting agent on numerous occasions to say its still broke and they say they will speak to him or send him a letter?? Now March and i'm still here? What do i do???????? Can i claim money/compensation for the amount of time it has been broken?? Are they breaking the law? I've just rung the letting agent again and spoke the manager who said he will ring the landlord and find out what's happening, he sounded genuinely annoyed at the landlord but i still don't think this is going to get it fixed?

In desperate need of some advice about where i stand :(

Send a letter recorded delivery outlining all the problems.

    Forget about ringing them.

You could have had this fixed in a matter of weeks if you had known what to do. The guide below will tell you the basics:

To add a bit more detail, the LL is responsible under their Section 11 obligations. These can be enforced by you as tenant through the procedure outlined in Lee Parker vs Izzet 1971 (basically you repair and deduct from rent) and/or calling in the council.

WRITE. Let him know you now know what is supposed to happen and that you can enforce it. Set a deadline.
