Advice needed - car insurance nightmare!
Can anyone advise? Think my car insurance co are trying to do me over (Sainsbury's Bank in association with eSure)
Have just moved house so have rung them to update my details and apparently my premium is going up by almost £160! I've only moved 20 mins down the road and this seems extortionate. Apparently its to do with my new postcode which I suppose as I'm on a new build development may be the case, but to go up by that much?
What I'd like to do is be able to shop around and go elsewhere, but given that I'm only updating my details rather than renewing I think I'm locked into my contract. Does anyone have any suggestions or have you experienced something similar?
Thanks in advance for your help

A change of postcode can always affect your insurnace (car, house etc) especially if the first part changes i.e. SG to LU. They will probably also price the extra on the latest prices which may have increased since you took the policy out.
You say it has gone up £160 but is that £160 on an original figure of say £300 or £3000?IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

It all depends on how long the policy has left to run.
Most insurance policies allow you to cancel part way through the year but you will get less than a pro-rata refund. For example if you cancel after 3 months you might get a refund of 70%, possibly less an admin fee. You will also have to start with the same NCD as your current policy, as you will not have a full year claim-free.
I would shop around for a new quote and compare this with the refund you would receive, then ring them again.
If you choose to cancel and start a new policy, make sure you do actually cancel the old policy even if you are so far into it that you won't get a refund, as you cannot use the same NCD on two policies at the same time.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

I am moving at the end of the month to a new postcode and am apparently due a £27 rebate on my car insurance. Location clearly does matter.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0
