Scottish Hydro con or not?
Hi,
I am profoundly deaf, but had the cold call from a Scottish Hydro rep, he is saying stuff like, sign up & I will get a discount card for ASDA givibg 10% off my fuel bills if I fill up at ASDA. Also he is saying, we own the pipeline & because of the disruption in my local area due to pipe replacement, SH will give a 10% discount on my energy bill.
I am with EON just now, is it worth switching or is he talking crap? I guess the easy way is to call SH, but I can't 'cos I'm deaf
Thanks
Allan

Online chat to Scottish hydro:
Allan(13:49:06): Hi,
I am profoundly deaf, but had a cold call from a Scottish Hydro rep, he is saying stuff like, sign up & I will get a discount card for ASDA giving 10% off my
fuel bills if I fill up at ASDA. Also he is saying, we own the pipeline & because of the disruption in my local area due to pipe replacement, SH will give a 10%
discount on my energy bill.(13:49:06)[An agent will be with you shortly.]
Allan (13:55:02 PM): I strongly suspect this "salesman" is breaking a few guidelines here & would likme you to clarify the issues rasied. For
example there is nothing on the contract relating to any kind of discount with any 3rd party company such as ASDA or ARGOS, as mentioned by the rep.
(13:55:35 PM)[
You are now chatting with Janine.]
Janine (13:56:50 PM): Thank you for waiting, my name is Janine I can help you with this.
Allan (13:56:56 PM):
Ok thx
Janine (14:00:14 PM): its sounds like the sales rep has got a few offers that we do confused with each other. Have you signed up or has this just been offered
to you?
Allan (14:00:39 PM):
I have a contract here but am thinking of cancelling it as I seem to have been scammed
Allan O'Neill (14:01:08 PM): It is application No: 3527142
Janine (14:04:17 PM):
I see, I'm very sorry to her you have been left unhappy. There is a scheme with Argos that we do and also there is something called money savers which I'm
sure asda is included in but I can check that for you. Also we do a scheme called energyplus care which if a customer is spending 20% of there annual
income on gas and electric they may qualify for a rebate scheme.
Allan (14:05:04 PM):
I AM on benefits, so energy care+ may be suitable
Allan(14:05:58 PM):
What exactly has this Conman sold me, because it is not clear on the contract as to which package it is?
Allan(14:07:36 PM):
I am with EON at the moment, & am unsure if you actually are cheaper, obviously I have a problem trusting anything said now after this cold call...
Janine (14:07:40 PM):
I don't have your details here as unfortunately I can trace an application number as this is more registration purposes but if you have your post code and house number I can check for you
Janine (14:10:37 PM): I understand, we will get this resolved either way for you today. I'm not a salesman my job is customer care and I can look through
this with you. I promise we will get this resolved today either way. I'm just going to call through to our registration team and find out exactly what he has put
down for you..
Allan (14:10:50 PM): Thank you
Janine (14:22:23 PM): Sorry for delay. You have been signed up on our standard tariff with a bonus of something called money savers which does give you discounts at Argos and Asda this is correct. However it doesn't give you a discount card just for Asda or money off your fuel bills.
Allan (14:26:22 PM): I assume the claim that you were giving 10% off energy prices for pipeline disruption was entirely a lie?
Janine (14:28:54 PM): It doesn't sound correct in al honesty no, have you had a disruption in supply? a sales rep cant offer compensation so if that is what he is implying then that is just not the case.
Allan (14:30:07 PM): No, there has been no disruption, but there has been for the past year pipeline works across the road, and he also claimed that the company doing the works has gone bust, hence the offered discount
Allan (14:30:49 PM): can I just ask how to cancel this contract?
Allan (14:31:25 PM): I am not happy at all to continue with this contract at the moment
Janine (14:33:45 PM): I'm so sorry, I can apologise enough but what I can do is put in a complaint to that sales reps manager because certainly the last bit is not the case. We do not accept this time of behaviour from our sales reps and action will be taken.
Janine (14:34:09 PM): *type of behaviour
Allan l (14:34:15 PM): Thank you
Janine (14:34:38 PM): I can arrange to get this cancelled for you of course
Allan (14:34:47 PM): Please doJanine (14:35:34 PM): Just calling through to our registrations team now
Allan (14:35:40 PM): Thanks
Allan (14:37:10 PM): I did suspect later that I had been lied to, the rep was falling over himself with excitement at having "sold" a package, I should have known better..if it's too good to be true- then it probably is--
Janine (14:44:12 PM): I'm sorry Mr O'neil that sort of behaviour is inexcusable. I have cancelled that for you now and you will get a letter confirming that has been done. I have got the sales reps id reference so this will be forwarded to his manager today.
Allan (14:44:44 PM): Thank you very much Janine. I appreciate all your assistance.
Took a while, hate being deaf, but we got there & he will get his butt kicked I hope :beer:0 -
if you are profoundly deaf, would it not be better to put the phone down on commission-hungry reps and choose your tarif online via a comp site and then a cashback site? That way you get the commission yourself and the best tariff.
Apart from all the rubbish about 'us owning the pipline', this rep simply sold you the SH standard tariff-which is of course their most expensive, so presumably pays him the most commission.
The best deals are always the online discounted tariffs, not the ones you are offered over the phone. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Yes you are correct, it was a doorstep call. I should have known better, usually close the door in their faces.. I got lazy..will use u switch next time or similar.0

Use a comp site for the comparison itself, then once you have your tariff use a cashback site and reap the benefits. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Ok will do that, thanks0
