Dell Studio Laptop Broken..

Hi, I have a Dell 1537 Studio Laptop and the hinges have broken and there is also a crack to the top lid. The Screen all works fine. I called Dell and they said they could send someone out to me to fix it and it would cost £160 - but he said to replace hinges - I did say the plastic lid needed replacing to but we were having a hard time understanding each other.
Does this sound like a good price or should I try some independent repair shops??
I have looked on ebay and can see a part I think is what I need - I wondered if I purchased this and then took my laptop and the part to a local shop whether that would work out better for me.

I'm not sure what the best thing to do is? I am a bit worried Dell are going to come out and then charge me more because they were only saying hinges even though I kept saying a cracked lid!!
I was thinking if it's going to cost close to £200 to fix I may be better off buying a new laptop and selling mine on ebay?
What would you experts do??

You certainly should try some independent repair shops, since this is a fairly common problem. Dell will factor in the cost of an engineer coming to visit you, so unless it's still under warranty the shop(s) will probably be cheaper. If you bring your own spare part they will probably charge you about £35 "just to look at the laptop", but ask them for a quote a) with them sourcing the spare part(s) and b) with you sourcing the spare part.
And please tell me that the laptop isn't pink and/or that you are not blonde!0 -
Cheers - I am sort of blonde thats me in my avatar!!0
