House Insurance Claim

I have minimal damage on my upvc rear door and window to the plastic from an attempted breakin. Solaglass came out two weeks ago and they have just phoned to say insurance say they can go ahead with repairing the door and window.
I cant pay my excess £50 till pay day 28th but am now wondering whether its really worth getting it repaired.
Im always one for saving money.
:)

the damage is just indentations in the frame and door were the burglar tried to lever it open.

They are just going to mould it back to shape.

My insurance is with endsleigh and i have not even filled in a claim form.

It is up to you. If you don't want to go ahead you don't have to. Just phone the Insurers and Solaglas to let them know. With many small claims, you no longer have to complete a claims form.

One word of caution is whether the damage makes the UPVC less secure or not. Only you can judge this from what you have been told. It is just that if you were to suffer a break-in and it was found that they got in via an unrepaired door/window,then I can see you getting into an argument.

Don't forget that the claim (even if not continued) will now feature on the CUE database, so you would have to disclose to prospective Insurers when you shop around at renewal.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
