Should house value increase or decrease if near pubs?

Hey all, I'm new here, but I came across some interesting data when building a widget for Gartoo called How Tipsy is Your Town, which suggested that on a national level areas with a large number of pubs tend to have lower house prices due to the general increase in crime rate. However, I was thinking that in some respects pubs should increase the value of houses as they retain British Culture, add community spirit, and provide recreational activity. What do people here think?

What's British Culture then ?
Oh, I remember, kebabs, chlamidia and a punch up.
Most pubs will be turned into houses as they go bust anyway so I guess it matters not.0 -
Most pubs these days are loud, open late and full of drunks/thugs. Gone are the genteel, quintessentially British old fashioned pubs full of jovial locals and old timers. Sweep that lot away, strip it out, remove tables/chairs and bring in the "Happy Hour" brigade, squeezing them into the standing room only .... and make 10x the profit from the space.
Definitely houses are worth less.0 -
You'd best plot in the kebab houses too!
The trip from pub to kebab house is noisy ... and then the point at which you've eaten the kebab to home is noisy again.
mmmm kebabs.0 -

I tries to eat one sober once, never again.0 -
Depends on type of pub. A good pub close by can be seen as a benefit. However if you have a good or bad pub near you prices will fall as the housing bubble deflates back to normal levels. Not even a Jamie Oliver gastro pub next door will prevent that.:exclamatiScams - Shared Equity, Shared Ownership, Newbuy, Firstbuy and Help to Buy.

Hiya Brit.
Noticed you've not been posting in the debate house prices board much lately. Probably something to do with house prices rising again on three of the four big indices last month..... So I'm guessing your current sig won't last much longer than the last few.
Maybe you'd best keep your "House prices will fall" propaganda for over there though.
This boards not for debating prices.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
