Lloyds TSB student account and Ipods

just looking for some advice really

i'm a 3rd year at the mo, and just opened a student account. i went to lloyds because they were advertising the free ipod. when i opened it, i asked the guy when i would get my ipod, and he said "put in £500, and it will be sent to you within 28 days"

so i waited the 28 days and still no ipod, waited a couple more weeks, nothing. i rang the student accounts place and they said because i was a 3rd year, i wasnt entitled to one.

so i went back to the branch and they took my details and said they would give me a call back, they didnt :( so i went back last week, again, and now they're offering me £27.50 (half the price of the ipod) in compensation because the guy who opened my account said i would get one.

just wondering if you all think this is reasonable or whether i am entitled to the full £55 because the guy told me i would get an ipod and i haven't. and if you lovely people have any ideas how to push them for the £55 without being nasty

thanks in advance for the advice!

  • i think you've been misled and it appears that Lloyds are admitting it by offering the £27.50. That said, you might have a fight on your hands as (and dont quote me) most student incentives tend to be for 1st year students (sucks for the rest of us) maybe have a look at the original documentation and see if it states that. You've nothing to loose by pleading your case with the bank for the full amount (or for the ipod itself) so best of luck, and let us know how you get on.

thats not surprising as they paid me £50 and my mate just for opening an account.

glad you got it sorted, and thanks for the heads up, i was thinking of getting my account changed to a student one purely for the ipod (i already have a lloyds current account) but i dont want the big overdraft so i dont think i'll bother.
