Door draughts

House is rented through LA, they have said nothing can be done about draught coming through the gaps in the door, you can't see through it and water doesn't get in but it blows a gale inc through the sides so the trusty floor draught excluders don't work. Tried that foam you stick on but can't shut the door when it's on. Anything else I can try? Not porch so the whole stair case and upstairs gets cold all the time.
One day I might be more organised...........

Yes, some companys will come out (grant assisted) and fit a strip right around your front door with a layer of material which is some times rubber or plastic, see here http://diy.house.co.uk/damp-repairs/ scroll down the next pdf page to see different ideas regarding door seals http://www.changeworks.org.uk/downloads/projects/Tenement_Fact_Sheets.pdf
other things you can do is put a curtain rail up over the door and hang a thick curtain make sure it slides back when you open the door,

I tried an extremely thick curtain, but seemed to still let it through, thanks for the other advice. Open to suggestions at the minute. One day I might be more organised...........

Is the door glazed? You could try the cling-film type glazing film. I know this won't stop the draughts, but extra layer would help conserve heat.
You can also get a brush type draught excluder for the letter box.
I realise these don't address the problem of draughts around the door, but might help.0 -
Assuming you're in England try this site for useful info and grants towards draught-proofing. I'm surprised your LA don't offer any help.

If that doesn't help make a trip to B&Q and get a screw on kit of door draught excluder strips (metal with rubber blade). Make sure they're fitted TIGHT against the door when it's closed. (Tried googling for prices but can't find any!) This is the kind of thing you need -

Make sure around the frame and skirtings are sealed well too - lots of draughts come in around the frame. Use mastic - the kind that comes in a large tube -may need a 'gun' to apply.Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.

Had this problem in an old flat of mine. I put a hairy thing on the letterbox & at the bottom of the door but could still feel cold air. In the end I made a curtain, interlined it (was as thick as a duvet in the end!) That did the trick as it covered the whole bit of wall. The only problem is if people try to get in when it's shut  You can get a portiere rod that will lift the curtain, but then that will probably not be so draught proof either.0

Going to get a new curtain rail and try the curtain again, will look for those rubber things aswell, we did have them on but when I rang the LA as they were hanging off instead of coming out and replacing them he just pulled them off!One day I might be more organised...........
