Equifax and Experian free trials..?

This is a bit of a head scratcher. I just tried taking up the offer of a 30 day free trial to check my credit rating. Both these organisations offer 30 day free trials to NEW MEMBERS ONLY. Well it appears that I probably signed up for them both about 8 years ago or so as both still have me on record and told me to sign in with my original password. I didn't complete my application for fear of being charged £15 the moment I log in, seeing as I just supplied them with my payment info and everything!

The question is, does anyone know the status of this 'New Member Only' clause they seem to be so fond of? It seems fairly self-explanator you'd thinky, however shortly after abandoning my application I received an email inviting me to finish and log in as I would not get charged for 30 days! Is this just a generic email, or can I hold them to it? It certainly contradicts their position of not offering a trial to previous applicants, hence my confusion!

Anyone?

I expect you will be rejected later on.
I expect the email was generated before the check to see if you were an existing member.
No you cannot hold them to it (they almost certainly have small print and they have only invited you to apply - suject to NEW members only)

Save yourself some hassle and get the £2 version.
  • Yup the £2 version does the same job, and as long as you can log-in you can view it online straight away..

Is that now true of Experian??
They used to either send it in the post or send a PIN in the post.

Yes experian send a PIN but you can view it online immediately with Equifax by using the same login details as you did for the "free" trial and then follow this link:

    https://www.econsumer.equifax.co.uk/consumer/uk/order.ehtml?prod_cd=UKSCR
    Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
  • As long as you have gone past the PIN stage.. Of course, if not - you just have to wait for this and any orders you place again you should then be able to view in the future..

I placed the £2 order last Sunday, and I could view it staright away online.

    Thanks, I see now.
First Experian report takes a while as you have to wait for PIN.
Subsequent reports use the same PIN.
I don't think I kept mine, so will have to see if I can retrieve it on-line.
  • You should have to only enter the PIN once, this is only to confirm it is indeed you and that you live at the address you gave during the registration.
