I have a Halifax business account that would of gone 59 pounds overdrawn due to two direct debits, only I don't have an overdraft facility so the items were dishonoured and I was charged a fee of 70 pounds. I paid in 150 to cover the charge and the payments only to find the payments were not made but the bank took the charges and the original 59 pounds. So now I am 129 pounds down and the payments still have to be made, is this legal

If it is in line with their terms and conditions, then it's perfectly legal.

What is not clear, though, is what you mean by they 'took' the £59. Banks don't just 'take' money, but can only feed the account with transactions such as charges. So what do we assume happened? Well almost certainly, because your DD's 'bounced', maybe they were re-presented and therefore paid second time around.

A Halifax business account? That would be a rare thing.

Or a Bank of Scotland one? Or a Lloyds one?

Halifax don't operate business current accounts. Are you operating a personal account for business purposes? That would be in breach of the terms and conditions.

Sorry your right, it's a Bank of Scotland Business Account, I just use the Halifax for all transactions. Anyway the DD's never went out as I paid them on a card today. My account shows overdrawn even though the DD's were never paid
