Funeral Bonds

Does anyone know anything about these? Are they worth considering for my elderly parents? Thanks.

The best funeral plans are with the Coop. With the Coop you pay a rate based on todays funeral prices, whereas other plans only provide for a sum of money, which might not be adequate at the time of the funeral.

There are many people that think the Coop are a budget funeral service. This is actually not the case, as they are the countries largest funeral company and the largest stonemasons for cementary funiture. With the size they can offer whatever service is required, with different plans available.

My experience with relatives services, is that the Coop provide a better service at less cost. There are some local funeral companies that charge fees that are a rip-off. One such company charged nearly £4000, for a very basic crematorian service, with no cars for family.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
  • With the Co-op you basically pay for the funeral you want now, and if you don't need it for 50 years you don't need to pay extra. But if the family decided they want more cars, horses, etc they can pay extra for these.

    Definitely worth it IMO.

The co-op are usually more expensive than an independent funeral director. Be wary, some funeral homes appear to be family run businesses, but they are owned by the co-op or dignity funerals. I would look at funeral planning services.
