American express Application status

Hi all

Just applied for the American express nectar credit card and didnt get instant decision. It says the following

Thank you for applying for the Nectar Credit Card. We do try to give everyone an instant decision on their application, but it's not always possible. Unfortunately we are unable to give you a final decision today.

We just need to do a few extra checks before your application can be processed and we will let you know the final decision within the next 10 working days.

Do you think it's likely i will now be declined? I met all the criteria laid out to apply for the card, my credit score is 999 on credit expert and I already have the american express platinum cashback card which I have held for 4 years . I have no missed payments or bad marks on my history. Is this card harder to get than the Amex platinum? Any idea what the extra checks will be? Is it worth Ringing them
Up in case they need more info? Will having the cashback card with them already go in my favour? I am looking to rent my first house in a few weeks so was gerund this card so I can start using it for my food shopping etc - if I get declined by Amex will it affect a landlord doing a credit check on me for a house ? Or will it not affect my report too much ?
How tough are the credit checks done by landlords? What they looking for and are they the same as what a bank would check? Any info appreciated worrying now I won't get a house if I get declined

Referring an application is not uncommon. It only means what it says, they are not prepared to give an immediate decision, and a human underwriter needs to look at your details, or they need more ID from you.

A recent application or two in the past six months (it's a search only, not a decline or accept) doesn't mean a thing, but it can put off scrupulous lenders.

For tenant checks, the "credit" check is not even considering any credit information, no number of searches, no account information, no credit limits, nothing of that kind. Anyone not prepared to lend you money will not see those details. They *may* give a generic score-like indication of your repayment performance. They can only use the CRAs to verify your identity, and learn other public information, like CCJs and bankruptcy. If you don't have those, you have no reason to worry at all.
    Enjoy the silence...

Chexum .....I owe you a beer, cheers .

Sorry I forgot to mention I also applied for the sainsbury nectar card 10 mins after the Amex one , again the sainsbury one didn't give me an instant decision, but I dont think sainsbury offer the instant decision like Amex ? Is this correct?

Will applying for 2 cards is one day affect my credit rating?

The sainsbury card said "thank you for you application we are now processing it"

That was it, what would you take from that brief statement? Are they likely to accept or decline me? I mean the Amex application made it clear that more checks are needed, but the sainsbury one does not, have I been accepted and they are just on with processing it?

Has anyone had an instant decision with sainsbury nectar card or Ben approved ? Can u tell me if they said the above ?

Oh !!!!!! , just realised the sainsbury criteria said you must not have web declined credit in the last month, will they know about the American express application and consider it a declide because it needed more checks by an underwriter? Or is it too soon for sainsbury to know about Amex ?

Help .... Getting a bit worried now .

Bare in mind that credit references agencies systems are not avilable 24 hours a day you know.

If the credit reference agency is not able to supply data to the lender the application will automatically be referred.

Stclare - didn't know that thought the reference agency thing was a computer generated thing, if what your saying is true how can any credit card company possibly offer a yes to an application if it's is made outside normal human working hours? Some companies give instant decesions, where would the credit check come from in this instance ?

    Or could you be wrong?

    Cheers

Well of course the company will consult a credit reference agency when you make an application for credit. If the credit reference agency is not availble to provide the information how can they make a decision, as once the application has been processed the lender sees your credit file.

For example natwest/rbs are not able to give instant decisions between certain times as experian is not available between them times. The application would be queued as a referal until the next working day where some manual intervention may take place.

I see thanks for the info.

Just found this info on sainsbury website

As a responsible lender, under our current policy we are unable to approve more than 1 credit card for each customer. If you have any questions around this policy please contact us on 0800 032 1365.

I already have a credit card with Halifax which I have had for 5 years, with Halifax being 50/50 with sainsburies and doing all their underwriting does this mean they will auto reject me? Has anyone got both these cards or knows if it's possible ?

    Also found this:

After you've completed your online application, we'll carry out a credit check. And once that's approved, we'll send you the completed application (so you can sign it) along with a copy of our terms and conditions.

So would the above sugguest that sainsburys don't offer an instant decision online? Strange I have not had an email or anything from them to even confirm they got my application, it just said they are processing my application and thank you.

Any advise on all the Abovd people

Is it possible then that i didn't get an instant decision because I applied at 10pm on a Sunday? So will the computer give a instant decision first thing money morning or will it now be with the underwriter regardless ?

I put everything on the form, what more can they want to know ?

Does the fact that it's a nectar card for spending improve your chances of approval over a balance transfer card, as you are litterally getting the card to spend on - equal money for them.
