This has been driving me nuts al day....!
I have a 8 gb flash drive and a sumvision cyclone micro media thingy for plugging in my flashdrive and wathing movies on my tv.
Fist of all i could not get them on my flash drive, so after investigation i found out that flash drive was in fat32 format and i needed to format it to NTFS...!
Anyhow had this movie in mp4 format, put it on my flash drive and wont play...so googled and downloaded a movie format changer and managed to change the format to mpeg...! Then put it on my flashdrive plugged it into my sumvision and great it played, then 15 mins into film it knocked off...!
Further investigation hinted i may need to change the format of the film to AVI....! 4 hours have passed now and still no movie on my tv.
Anyhow started to change movie format again and noticed my hardrive space decreasing quite fast....had around 40 gigs and went down to less than 800 meg the movie converter programme was making copy after copy of the film....?
So i stopped it deleted all copies, managed to get my hard drive space back binned the film and the converter programme and got myself a lager...!
Can anyone give any advice of experiences and reccommend a decent movie file converter programme.
Thanks

You need to find out what formats will work
You also need to realise that not all formats will convert succesfully with all software
Personally I use Xvid4PSP for conversions of that nature -

Not all media players (whether Sumvision or WD or AC Ryan etc) will play all movies. I have tried 3 or 4 different makes and they all occasionally will not play a certain movie because of the file type. I have had problems mostly with .wmv & .mkv files. You will get most siccess with .avi files. When you have this problem then you will have to watch the movie on your laptop using VLC player or KMP player. I have never bothered trying to convert files.0

this is why you need to research before you buy and look at how you will play the files
we used to stream/transcode via playstation media server to the PS3/360
however a few formats still caused issue with juddery playback
now we have set up a media PC running Xbox media centre and that covers pretty much anything you can throw at it
if i wasnt using that sort of set up then i would have being going down the route of using a popcorn hour or the like0
