Help Me Pull A Prank?

Hi all. Just had a thought for a bit of fun but cannot find a definitive answer in my Google searching so thought I'd ask the experts on MSE?

Currently run a homenetwork so I can access music and other files from one computer on another. Currently I am writing this from my laptop whilst playing music over the network from the home computer.

Is it possible, through the network, to play files on the family computer? Was thinking some screams or something whilst parents are on the family computer would be a good laugh.

The only approximation I have seen of this is remote-access (like tech guys use when you have a problem) however this seems going a bit far to pull a prank. Was hoping there's a simple 'play on network PC' option I might have missed?

Cheers all,

Coeus.

Thanks that has put me on the right track however when I go "play to" the family computer is not listed :(

    I am running Windows 7 with WMP12.

Family computer is running Windows XP with WMP11.

    Can you advise?

you need LogMeIn which allows one computer to remotely control another. It's free and bound to really annoy the rest of your family, just think of all the other things you can do by remotely controlling their PC?

file delete, opening perv websites to embarass dad, emails to secret lovers left open for others to read.... the list is endless

To be honest, that really wouldnt be funny, perv websites to embarras dad, could lead to really bad vibes between mum and dad, if i found this on my OH computer he wouldnt be embarrassed, he would be divorced, so be very careful and just stick to innocent stuff, please.

sorry I forgot to add that I was joking about that....I would hope common sense might prevail but I suppose I should accept that advise given, however daft, could lead others into awkward situations....

I'm sure blood curdling screams randomly coming out of the parents computer is innocent enough and will taken in a light hearted manner by all concerned.

How about screen grabbing family computers desktop.

Setting that picture as the desktop background, then right click on the desktop Arrange Icons by, then click the show icons. So that all the icons disappear and all that's left is the picture of the desktop instead!

They will be clicking for ages trying to get it to work!!!

A good hack my dad used to do was having a small rocket chase the mouse pointer when it moved, if it was captured it would explode into a dozen pointers that would mirror the original exactly...if one of them were caught you would then have 24 pointers, then 36 and so on; eventually you would see nothing but thousands of pointers and you could turn off the program simply by pressing a certain button...THAT is the kind of stuff that you can get away with...but anything that could be potentially harmful is both illegal and unethical.

You need to ask about something that basic and yet use the Laughing Man logo?
