Chrome bottle trap, but plastic

Wickes have sold me a 'chrome' bottle trap which is actually chrome coloured plastic... Didn't realise these were actually plastic. Is chrome plastic ok for quality, or would I be better getting a brass - chrome coloured bottle trap please? And if so, how do I tell what size I want please? Thanks

It was delivered as I ordered online, so had no idea it was plastic until I took delivery

How much was it and does it bother you and can you return it as it would bother me personally as I wanted chrome then I'd expect chrome.

Cost about £17 thereabouts & ya it does bug me, but not sure if I'm justified in that is it as good as chrome over brass??? and I could easy return it

Chrome is chrome, whether is it on plastic or metal

Exactly how much wear does a bottle trap get, to make a plastic trap be of 'less quality' and less liable to last a long time?

Since waste pipes are plastic and a 'normal' bottle trap is plastic, i'd be inclined to think that it's better to have a plastic one so that it's most compatible with the rest of the waste system. Having said that though, I'm no plumbing expert and it's just how I'd feel.

If the rest of the waste system is plastic there is no reason for the trap to be chrome, unless for appearance reasons. The Wicke's web site does not make it clear that the trap is made of plastic. Although if you read the review someone has mentioned this. You can buy chromed brass traps on ebay which are not much more expensive. You require a 32mm or 1 1/2" trap for a basin waste. I fitted some plastic "chrome" pipe covers last year and the "chrome" wrinkled as soon as it was touched. The plastic "chrome" trap will work OK but it is possible that the "chrome" would be dislodged by rough manipulation. The decision is yours.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Our shower trap turned out to be plastic covered lookalike chrome...in no time at all the plastic started peeling off and looks really tacky. Dianne
