whiplash

I had a car accident over 4 years ago and suffered whiplash and still suffering today.

Get pain in neck, upperback, shoulders arms with numbing sensations like pins n needles. The treatment I initially got was chiropractic....I felt that this helped but stopped as could no longer afford it.

A few months ago had torticolis and was referred to physio after this - (up until this point GP did not take my pain seriously and suggested I do swimming and stretching etc). The physiotherapist discharged me after 3 months as it was not helping me.

I took strong pain killers in the early weeks after the accident and on occasions i had torticolis. All other times eventhough I am in pain I do not take anything else I'd constantly be popping painkillers.

Have any of you MSE readers with a whiplash injury completely recovered? I was told at first that symptoms would be gone after a year but here I am 4 years later and still suffering.

I had an orthapedic surgeon examine me last year and was told with physio symptoms would disappear within 6 months, if not then an MRI should be done. The other party failed to provide this physio and also failed to provide an exaplantion as to why.

I had the MRI done at a private facility and am waiting on the outcome and course of treatment. Is a month a long time to wait on the outcome? I am fearing the worst...am dreading the idea of surgery.

I have also been to see another orthapedic consultant arranged by defendents solicitir who examined me by asking to move my head in different directions - but did not feel the joints or ask if I experienced any pain whilst doing this. As this consultant acting on behalf of defendant are they likely to be biased?

My driving has also been affected by the accident and I would like to get some help/counseling in getting back on the road again.

My solicitor keeps telling me that this can be arranged and the other party should pay for this but I've waiting for months and I hear nothing. If I was to pay for this myself and then reclaim the cost of the other party - is there any remote chance it gets rejected? They have admitted liability.

Have not agreed/settled any compensation as symptoms not improving. This whole thing been going on for years, got to the point now that whenever i get a solicitir letter i get stressed.

If you suffered from whiplash long term, can you advise what treatment hepled? And if you did eventually recover?

Sorry to hear you are still suffering.

I was knocked off my push bike about 22 years ago and I suffered whiplash. To start with I had phiso once a week, My poor mum had to drive 140mile round trip as the other party was paying we had no choice. It did work and after a while we would leave it longer and longer between visits. After 3 year we settled out of court as I was told it could go on for years because of the neck.

The pain wasn't too bad but was on strong pain killers when needed. Doctor also did acupuncture which helped but NHS stopped this at our doc. She sugested an octeopath and I am still going 10 years later but I go about 2 times a year. I know when the head or neck isn't quite right then I go. I know its not cheap but it is worth it to be pain free most of the time now.

Sorry I couldn't be of much help I just hope you find something that helps.

Hi, I was wondering if court action has been started against the other side?
Does your solicitor have a leter to accept liability? if you dont have this letter (contract) it will make things compicated.

If you have had 1 medical, I would recommend you instruct your solictior to get a second medical report.

Time delay on payments- once liability is admited and you havent received your payment, intrest is added will be added.

If you need cash you can request your solicitors to give send the other side "a request for a interim payment". the law on intermin payment means you can do what you like with.

about 10 years ago I was hit in the rear at approx 40-50 mph by an articulated 40 tonne lorry, so I think I know what whiplash feels like.

The best advice I can give you is to keep mobile. Any injury to the back or neck will get progressively worse if you do not exercise and strenghten the surrounding muscles and tissue to compensate for the injured ones.

10 years on and having followed the advice of the doctors and physio team I am running in the Bupa London 10k this year and am reasonably physically fit for someone my age (41).

I do still have pain in my back on occasion however this is normally after a long period of inactivity, like a long break from exercise etc.

Keep mobile and you will be fine
