I'm still not grasping why before 11th january renewal date i was £1400 less risky than after it.
Sure, if i'd had an accident, made a claim, even moved then I could understand. Even before i'd moved house the renewal was a complete joke, (1060 to 5700).
People have provided you with clear reasons. What can't you grasp?
I don't settle for the answer "the computer says so" - What is the data that the computer is using to decide i'm suddenly a higher risk.
Computer says so. Underwriter says so. Fred who is chief executive says so. What difference does it make? They can charge what they want and they have assessed your "type" as having a risk that justifies the premium.
I'm not any more of a risk in 2011 than i was in 2010.
You individually may not be. Someone with your age, car, post code etc is.
Unless the insurers can explain why they think I am, in an answer better than "the computer says so" then i'm going to keep pushing for a better premium.
Fine. Tell everybody online. Everybody in the pub. Everybody at work. Ring every individual broker / insurance company you can. The first 3 will change nothing. The last 2 give you a chance.
Surely im entitled to see what the insurers are using to assess me as a risk, in the same way i'm allowed to see my credit report from a financial perspective?
Lenders don't provide details of how they credit score. You won't get an insurer telling you "this is how to fiddle the system".

When you're using the comparison sites, why not change some of the data to input, so you get to see a wider cross-section of charges for different areas and different vehicles.

I wouldn't expect Wavertree, Old Swan and Hulme to vary that widely as they are all urban areas in major cities. Try a dummy postcode from a rural area. Try changing the spec of the car you drive.

I am not suggesting you lie on an application, this suggestion is merely to broaden your perspective on the whole motor insurance scene.

  • Watch out everyone ....

I've just checked what car insurance prices are coming up for me on MoneySupermarket.com. My insurance isn't due but cannot believe what quotes i'm getting ...

I've been driving for 20+ years
Never had a claim or accident in all the years I've been driving
I normally pay around £300 a year on renewal

Its now giving me quotes of £1200+

You have got to be joking - I can't afford that

Yes, I'm a woman but this is just ridiculous

I do know that the Insurance Companies claim my house is in a high risk area - what a load of crap - I dont even have an alarm on my house so that tells you something - plus the Police Crime map for my road just had one incident on it and within the surrounding area it just shows ASBO's.

I think us British are too soft and just agree to anything.

Please explain why you think your house is not in a high risk area when the insurance companies have claims stats which will show it is?

Or are too lazy to find out the reasons why to things and prefer to moan about instead and remain ignorant.

The insurance companies have claim stats... well, then I want to see them. (And the year before, and the year before that) to make a comparison. (If indeed where i live is the risk)

The stats are also flawed. They base them on "The number of people living in your area making claims" - Wonderful, except there's no relationship to their postcode actually relating to where the crime takes place. If my car is broken into at work in another city, the mark goes against my house address? - That seems a rather flawed, and somewhat beneficial to the insurers as i'm sure most people who commute travel into cities to work, and out to the suburbs to live.
This artificially inflates the prices in the suburbs, when statistically the crine happens in the city.

I"m deviating massively, but since i started this, i'm allowed. :)
    Thoughts?

Its in your hands to find a cheaper quote, its very easy to do, other peoples claims have also gone up as well so your not the only 1

i was recently quoted hughe amounts for insurance, some of that will be attributed to my 1 conviction

I live in M14, well, as a student in term time. I keep my car back at my mum's house in Cumbria for the holidays as I just can't afford to keep it here. It would be 2.5x more. Crime is pretty horrific round here, although I thankfully haven't suffered personally, as are cases of crash for cash scams. That's something of an answer...
