£140 at the Apple Store, they just replace it.

I had the same problem with my 3GS last year. I took it into an Apple Store and they swapped it for another handset. It cost me £140.

Look on eBay. Replacement screens sell for around £30-40 and comple complete with a screwdriver to assist in the swap. I've already done two, and if you take your time is easy to do!
  • On the Iphone4 the way the screen is fitted is apparently different to the 3g phones making them harder to do yourself.

Iv found a reputable repair place in london called lovephones and they repair it for £100 and have excellent feedback, is it worth paying the extra £40 for apple to repair it? If they give u another handset free isnt it a hassle transferring everything over?

You just do a backup through iTunes before you go to Apple and restore afterwards.

Do you have personal belongings or accidental damage cover on your home insurance?

It's probably too late for the OP, but i smashed my iphone screen on monday dropping it from hip height! Unfortunately with the iphone4 even if just the covering glass is cracked the whole screen still needs replaced, the repair from apple is £146.44. Replacing the back glass is much cheaper though. I also got a quote from my local phone repair place and they said they could do it for £95.

However, I thought I'd chance my arm ayway and go to the apple store and ask what they could do, I have no insurance or anything so had nothing to lose. To my enormous surprise and deep, deep gratitude they replaced the phone for FREE, as a one off. They said if i break it again, i'll have to pay. But I'm very happy with that outcome indeed! Thank you apple! This is my second replacement, it was only a couple of months old as my first one suffered from dropped calls and crap reception and I got it replaced under warranty at Christmas.

Be polite and nice to apple and they might replace yours too.
