Scanner not found?

Hello there,
Really hoping someone can help me, this has given me a right headache this afternoon!
I have an Epson SX420W (all in one machine).
Can print & copy with no problems at all.
When I try to scan to pc, I open up 'Epson Scan' and it starts to work (and I can hear the Epson buzzing away in the next room, wirelessly), it then freezes and says 'not responding'.
I've tried using Windows Scan (I'm on windows 7), but it can't locate the scanner, its almost like it recognises the machine, just not its ability to scan.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the epson scan driver but no luck.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you in advance
