Fish recipes that don't taste or smell fishy!

The one thing I never cook / eat is fish, as I don't really like the taste and can't stand the smell. I'll have cod/haddock in batter but that's about it.

Do recipes exist where the fish flavour is largely disguised by the sauce? And if so, which fish is best for this, but also has the beneficial oils etc? I'm sure I could do white fish in e.g. curry, but it's oily fish that's good for you, isn't it?

I've recently started having a bit of beef thanks to my slow cooker & yummy casseroles, and I eat a bit of chicken and bacon now and again but I'm not really a big meat eater, so I think I should try introducing some fish to my diet.

Any ideas (or pointers to other threads!) would be much appreciated, thanks!

Fresh fish shouldn't smell fishy at all. :)

I don't really know what to recommend as I can't think of a recipe where you can't taste the fish.

You could try cod provencal or a really cheesy fish pie?

Fish like tuna, shark and swordfish are more "meaty" so to speak. If you will eat cod/haddock in batter you could have coley/hake/pollock or simular white fish in batter.

What about monkfish? That is very "meaty" and holds flavour very well. A monkfish curry could almost be mistaken for chicken curry except the texture is different.

Spicy or acidic flavours such as lemon/chilli etc will likely overwelm any fish ordours/flavours?

Difficult to advice really as I love fish and worked as a fishmonger for a while lol. But OH had never eaten much other than battered. As I trained and worked we tried lots of stuff together and tried different technics. To be honest there are so many types of fish they will be something you like. What about shellfish? They tend to taste just of salt and the sea rather than a fishy smell.

Fresh fish should smell of very little just that ozony sea smell, but I know what you mean about the smell once cooked can be a bit more fishy. Perhaps for you the batter contains the smell as both cod and haddock are what most people would say ARE "fishy" fish. Battered mackeral is yummy and again a meaty flavour, but some people find it a bit rich.

Try to find a good local fishmonger (we are so lucky we have a great local farm shop selling local produce and the fishmonger van parked outside 2 days a week-he sells beautiful very fresh tasty fish and gives great advice) they can guide you through. Try different fish and different methods of cooking mmmmmmmmm.

Its a bit like people who say they don't like veg, what they should say is I haven't found the veg and the way I like it cooked yet.

Now you made me think about sushi (drool like Homer S lol). The more you eat the more you love.

A favourite with my cod only eating son is this.

I put a few pieces of frozen cod fillets in the bottom of a casserole dish and cover with a homemade butter sauce. Then layer with tinned sweetcorn and fresh/frozen broccoli, next layer with mashed potatoes and sprinkle grated cheese on top.Cook for about 30 mins

    Tuna!

Not the tinned stuff - the real thing, tuna steaks.

It's miles away in taste and texture from tinned. More expensive than tinned but not hugely so.

What about fish curry? It tastes and smells of curry, not fish. I can do you an Indian or a Thai one.
