Chicken on the bone?
Comments
-
My misses is the same. Wont eat meat of any kind off the bone and wont eat dark meat.
As suggested but everyone else your better not using any knifes or fancy tools to get the meat off. Just rip if off with your fingers. Might not be that great for a dinner party or out on the town but the by far the easiest at home.0 -
i used to not like meat on the bone. It feels very primal or something - but i've got over that with age and chicken thighs taste so much better than breast meat!
Chicken thighs has loads of ideas . we also have a rubber chicken thread. Chicken soup would help you make a meal out of very little chicken
i made homemade stock the other day, had it on the shelf in a pot, and managed to break a bulb and i couldnt be sure if glass had gotten in it so i had to bin it
ill merge this later for you. Pink has a really good slideshow on how to make stock - Piiiiiiinnnnnkkkkk where's the liiiiii-nnnnkkkkkkK!:p:oA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I dont eat meat but find if you hold the end of the loeg in kitchen paper you can get the skin and meat off with a fork.
I only do this if I want the meat off to put in a curry etc as OH and DS liek chicken on the bone
I usually buy a big chicken but get about 2 meals and a 1 lot of sandwiches off it, OH and DS are big eaters and probably eat enough for 4 between them.OH is putting on weight as he is getting older but isnt fat and DS does a lot of football and biking so is always hungry and I would prefer him to fill up on meals as otherwise he stuffs himself with biscuits etc0 -
Hi everyone and thanks for the replies!! some great recipes in those links going to have a look through - really want to try and make curry (rather than from a jar) but seems a bit faffy might have a hunt! DH loved his chicken today he loves the meat and isnt fussed if its dark meat or anything like that he just wont actually touch a bone? mind you we have moved on as when we first lived together he wouldnt touch raw meat but he had to get over that as i got him some gloves which he refused to wear and then mush have just 'manned up' after that! HappyMJ he has had none of those as wouldnt eat them but KFC do a boneless box which he will eat! Think ill get a big chicken and plan some meals around that best rip it apart with my bare hands when DH is out or he may think ive gone nuts :rotfl:

DH is fine with meat but wont touch a bone lol he never bites meat off the bone and wont scrape it off himself never really asked him why he has just always been like this! but i dont mind taking it off before serving - in a restaurant he wouldnt order anything with meat on the bone - like ribs or anything like that but at a friends house he very poiltly cut the meat away fron the bone but there was still loads on as he wasnt going anywhere near the bone he kind of skimmed the edges lol - does no one else do this?
My DH is the same. For him, he hates getting his hands dirty so doesn't want to physically touch most food but especially meat. If he orders something which is served on the bone (which is rare in itself) he will cut around it exactly as you describe.
At home, I tend to roast a whole chicken, serve sliced breast meat and then later strip the carcass by hand of the rest of meat to go into curries, pies, etc. No complaints.some great recipes in those links going to have a look through - really want to try and make curry (rather than from a jar) but seems a bit faffy might have a hunt!
I half cheat and use a good curry paste rather than mixing the individual spices together. I still make the rest of the sauce myself, and that's OS enough for me.0 -
Im glad someone else does this as i was beginning to worry a bit about DH!! to be honest he doenst mind the meat i just always cooked chicken breast because it was easier but trying new things now!! Cant for the life of me find a curry recipe that doenst involve a million things i dont have - what is the curry paste and what do you do with it? was going to try and make a left over curry with lots of veg and a little chicken but seems like hard work where im looking!!Living the simple life0

You can get the pastes in the same section as curry sauces in most supermarkets - I'm currently using a Madras style paste, but there's various Indian and Thai pastes available. We like a tomato based curry rather than creamy, so it's just a big spoonful of paste, a tin of tomatoes, lots of mushrooms (the only veg DH lets me put in curry) plus some leftover chicken and red lentils if I can sneak them in. Nice and quick!
You could make your own pastes up which would take some time to begin with but if you made a big batch and froze it in small portions, the actual curries would be fairly quick. Jamie has a bunch of curry paste recipes (from Ministry of Food).0 -
Thanks Londondreamer!!! off to look up curry stuff nowLiving the simple life0

I haven't long started using as much of the chicken as possible. I was the same as your husband, I couldn't even tough raw meat it went as far as I couldn't even look at it if I wanted to eat the meal.
I had my LO and I had to grow up, I had to get in there and touch it/see it unless my son was to grow up on takeaways/oven processed food. That was it.
Nowadays I will touch anything (except fish) although I did struggle touching the mince and the blood squeezing out over my hands!! I still done it.
Anyway I use my hands, so mjuch easier and I can get so much off it. It's just me and the toddler here and we have enough for a roast, I normally bag up 3 portions which is enough for me and the wee one of 2 adults if serving with chips/rice/veg etc. So that's 8 and then I boil up the carcass and skin and make stock which will give me 4 portions of soup I sometimes add chicken but sometimes I just add veg and have the chicken flavour.
