whirlpool dryer not heating up

Hi,
I have done some reading and my whirlpool dryer model Awz 3303 is fully functional apart from the crucial bit " no heat". People mainly saying its either the stat or the actual heater element itself. I have removed the heater element itself which has 2 stats on the side. When i put my meter across each stat my meter is beeping to say there is continuity. On the actual heater element there are two connectors off the heater pipes and my question is:
Should i put my meter across both legs of the pipe and get continuity or not. I am getting nothing off the meter and think this is where my problem is. Sorry im no expert with a meter but thought with the part removed the meter should test continuity on a working part.
Many thanks for anyone who can help me,
Ian
